North Newbald

Photograph of North Newbald, Yorkshire Wolds

One of many springline villages, found all the way along the western edge of the Wolds.

The Anglo Saxons established these villages (Sancton, Newbald, North and South Cave, Brantingham) due to their constant water supply. If they had livestock up on the Wolds where there was no water, they’d drive them down to thee springs to give them water once a day.
