Events for 2016

Set out below is what we hope to offer this year, but please remember  there may be some re-arrangement of the programme during the year. Most events are open to friends as well as members but you must book a place to attend any event. 

Friday 18th March

AGM 2016

Wolds Gliding Club, Pocklington Airfield

Speaker: Andy Melville. Lunch follows in the clubhouse.

Thursday 16th June

Dowthorpe Hall Garden, nr Skirlaugh

John Holtby will talk to us about this home’s connection with  the writer Winifred Holtby and Caroline Holtby will guide us around their National Garden Scheme garden. Visit to include tea and cake.

Thursday 14th July

Churches visit: St Mary, Little Driffield; St Michael & All Angels, Garton and St Nicholas, Wetwang.

Led by Mike Wynn and David Lunn. To include lunch.

 Thursday 18th August

The Old Farmhouse, Glebe Farm, Octon

Mrs Judy Burdass will welcome us to their farm and the recently restored “Cruck House”, a rare survival of the “type of building that was once common throughout the East Riding”. The farm is adjacent to the historic landscape walk fromOcton to Thwing. To include tea and cake.

Thursday 8th September

Sancton Heroes Village Walk

A walk exploring the  involvement of people from Sancton  during the First World War, led by Rob Thomson & Anita Liley. Followed by afternoon tea.

 Friday 21st October

Sledmere Lecture 2016

Dr Matthew Townsend, of the University of York, will give the lecture on the subject of his recent book: Viking Age Yorkshire. Includes reception  and two course supper with wine.
